Field Hockey Falls 3-0 on the Road.
Conn. - Whitney Martin scored two goals as Southern Connecticut
defeated American International College 3-0 Thursday evening in a
Northeast-10 battle. The win propels the Owls to 5-10 overall and
4-7 in the Northeast-10 while the loss drops AIC to 2-10 overall
and 2-9 in the conference.
Despite the loss, AIC out-shot the host 10-7, while earning more penalty-corners, 6-5.
Martin scored the contest's first goal under 10 minutes into regulation, smacking home a score past senior Cindy Armand (Danvers, Mass./Danvers) off of a rebound. Angela Cafarelli earned an assist on the game's first goal.
With the score 1-0, Ann Berry notched the second goal of the game just over the 20 minute mark in the second-stanza, scoring right outside of the high-circle.
Chelsey Grogan (Greenfield, Mass./Greenfield) led the Yellow Jackets reeling off three shots on the opposing goalie, Lauren Zarrllera, who made five saves in net for the Owls.
Nicole Spence (Port Jefferson, N.Y./Vandermuelen) took over goaltending duties 10 minutes into the second-frame, becoming the victim of Martin's second goal which was scored off of a tip from the right of the cage. Spence stopped two shots between the pipes for AIC.
AIC will take on St. Michael's at home, Monday October 8th.
