ICE HOCKEY BOWS TO BOBCATS 8-1
Hamden, Connecticut (February 13, 2007).- David
Turco (Sault Ste. Marie, ON) scored American
International's lone goal as they fell 8-1 in a non-conference
match-up against the Quinnipiac Bobcats Tuesday evening in Hamden,
Connecticut. The loss drops AIC to 6-22-0 overall while the victory
propels Quinnipiac to 15-10-5 overall.
Quinnipiac stormed out of the gates in the first-period. The Bobcats scored five goals, three times before the stanza had reached the five minute mark. Senior Reid Cashman broke the Bobcat all-time assists record when he notched a point on a Ben Nelson goal at the 5:12 mark, the team's fourth of the period, and Nelson's second of the game. Eric Lampe scored a goal and freshman stand-out Brandon Wong scored twice before the Nelson score. Quinnipiac out-shot AIC 17-2 in the first.
AIC got on the board at the 13:57 mark in the third-period. David Turco (Sault Ste. Marie, ON) skated in and scored his third goal of the year after tipping in a Chad Richardson (Regina, SK) shot. Frankie DeAngelis (Woodbridge, ON) recorded an assist on the goal. Shortly after AIC struck, Ben Nelson and Brandon Wong both capped off hat-tricks for the Bobcats upping their lead to 7-1. Bobcat forward Mike Atkinson would put the final goal of the evening in with under four minutes left in the period.
Tom Fenton (Sarnia, ON) recorded 28 saves in net for AIC while Bobcat goalie Zach Kleiman turned away 17 shots.
AIC will return to the Olympia Ice Center Friday evening at 7:00
to begin a home-and-home series with the Connecticut Huskies.
