ICE HOCKEY EARNS THIRD POINT OF THE WEEKEND WITH 2-2 TIE

Storrs, Connecticut - Despite having to battle from behind for the second straight evening, American International College earned a 2-2 tie against UConn Saturday evening in Atlantic Hockey Action. The Yellow Jackets earned their third point of the weekend helping them improve to 7-22-1 overall and 7-18-1 in the AHA. This is the first time AIC has gone unbeaten in back-to-back games this season The Huskies move their record to 13-17-2 overall and 13-11-2 in the AHA.  

Tom Fenton (Sarnia, ON) made 23 saves while Mark Fuqua (Shelby Township, Mich.) and Jeason Lecours (Sherbrooke, Quebec) scored a goal each for the Yellow Jackets.

Connecticut got on the board at the 14:23 mark in the first-period when Chris Ochoa scored his fifth goal of the season. The Huskies would hold the one goal advantage until early in the second frame when Lecours scored his fifth goal of the year on the power-play. The goal was scored just over three minutes into the period and was assisted by Matt Woodard (St. Louis Park, Minn.) and Greg Genovese (Hingham, Mass).

The Huskies would take the lead just over four minutes after the Lecours goal when Cole Koidahl ripped in his 13th score of the year. The goal for Koidahl was short-handed.

AIC tied the game at the 2:56 mark in the third when Fuqua scored his third goal of the year, assisted by Mark Pavli (Sarnia, Ontario). The game would remain even at two going into overtime, where neither team could notch the game winning goal.

Next weekend AIC will host Air Force Friday and Saturday night in their final two contest of the regular season. After that, the Yellow Jackets will begin play in the Atlantic Hockey Tournament where the winner earns an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
