YELLOW JACKET HOCKEY STINGS BENTLEY 5-2
West Springfield, Mass. (February 3, 2007).- Five
different players scored as host American International College
posted a 5-2 Atlantic Hockey victory over Bentley College at the
Olympia Ice Center Saturday night. The Yellow Jackets have
won two out of their last three and improve to 6-21-0 and 6-18-0 in
Atlantic Hockey, matching last season's win total, while the
Falcons are 11-15-1 and 10-12-0 in the league.
Jereme Tendler (Viceroy, SK) had a goal and an assist for AIC, while Mark Pavli (Sarnia, ONT) and Greg Genovese (Hingham, Mass.) each had two assists.
AIC got on the board first with just over four minutes to play in the first-period. Frankie DeAngelis (Woodbridge, ON) scored on a slap-shot assisted by Tendler. The goal was DeAngelis second of the year and it was a power-play goal. AIC out-shot the Falcons 9-2 in the first-frame.
The Yellow Jackets controlled the second-period, scoring twice. The first goal, scored by Tendler, his second point of the game, was from the right slot just over two minutes into the period. The goal was Tendler's 13th and it was assisted by Jeremy Leroux (Lunenburg, ON) and Pavli on the power-play. The second AIC goal came at the end of the period by freshman Mike McMillan (Sault Ste. Marie, ON). His goal was assisted by Mike Field (Marquette, MI) and Greg Genovese (Hingham, MA) and was scored at the 18:34 mark. AIC and Bentley both ripped off 10 shots in the period.
Bentley would break up AIC's shutout bid 21 seconds into the third period when Marc Menzione tallied his fifth goal of the season. The Yellow Jackets would score 2:42 later when Chris Bolognino (Carol Stream, Ill.) ripped a shot from the point on the power play to make it 4-1, with Genovese adding his second assist of the night. Bentley would make it 4-2 at the 4:18 mark of the third when Pat Percella scored off assists by Brendan Harrison and Marc Zwicky. That would remain the score until Jeason Lecours (Sherbrooke, Quebec) added an empty net goal with 57 seconds to play.
Tom Fenton (Sarnia, Ontario) made 23 saves en route to the win for AIC, which owned a slight 26-25 shot advantage. Jason Kearney made 21 saves for the Falcons. AIC finished the evening 3-9 on the power play while the Falcons were 0-7 with the man advantage.
AIC is idle until Tuesday, February 13, when it travels to No. 18 Quinnipiac for a 7:00 game.
