Sacred Heart Eliminates AIC from Atlantic Hockey Tournament with 4-0 victory.

BOX SCORE

Milford, Connecticut (March 10, 2007).-  AIC was unable to score a goal on Sacred Heart senior goalie Jason Smith and fell 4-0 to the Pioneer's in the quarterfinal round of the Atlantic Hockey Tournament Saturday evening. AIC finishes the season with an overall record of 8-25-1 while Sacred Heart improves to 21-10-4 overall and advances to the semi-finals of the AHA Tournament.

Tom Fenton (Sarnia, On) stopped 24 shots for AIC who were out shot 28-16. The Yellow Jackets season comes to an end despite winning their second AHA Tournament contest last weekend over Canisus and posting a 4-4-1 record to close out the season after starting out 0-9 in conference play.

With 12:52 showing on the clock in the first-period Sacred Heart scored the games first goal. Freshman Nick Johnson took an initial shot that was stopped by Fenton and flicked it over his right shoulder on the rebound. Despite giving up the goal, AIC controlled the tempo and the puck during first seven minutes of the game. Although AIC was out-shot 12-5 in the frame, their choppy style of play led them to several scoring opportunities.

Sacred Heart scored their second goal of the game when Bear Trapp flipped a power-play goal pasted Fenton just under five minutes into the second-period propelling the Pioneer lead to 2-0. AIC was unable to capitalize on two separate 5-on-3 power-play chances and a sloppy period that saw both teams' rip-off eight total shots on net.

With just over 10 minutes remaining in the third-period Sacred Heart garnered some breathing room, notching their third goal of the game when Kyle Tyll scored his seventh goal of the season on an odd-man rush. The Pioneers would pull away when Bear Trapp scored his second goal of the game on a one-timer feed from Peter Ferraro with just over five minutes showing on the clock.

Sacred Heart will play the winner of the Air Force Holy Cross contest slated for a 9:05 start time this evening.
