Yellow Jackets Fall to RIT 5-0

Boxscore

West Springfield, Mass. - Jesse Newman scored two goals as the Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers defeated the American International College men's ice hockey team 5-0 Saturday evening in the back end of this weekend series. The Yellow Jackets fall to 4-9-2 overall and 4-7-1 in the AHA while the Tigers improve to 6-6-3 overall and 5-4-3 in the AHA.

RIT scored a pair of goals in the opening frame. Jessie Newman grabbed the puck after it was tipped to him in the Tiger's offensive zone and flipped a top-shelf wrist-shot on a partial breakaway past Yellow Jacket goalie Dan Ramirez (Rochester, NY.) Ramirez turned away 13 shots in the first stanza.

Anton Kharin notched the Tigers second goal at the 17:26 marker in the first period. Kharin received the puck after a slap-shot from Bobby Raymond got redirected wide and pushed it across the crease for a 2-0 RIT advantage.

Like the first period, the Tigers scored two unanswered goals in the second frame. Matt Crowell sent home his fifth goal of the season when he punched home the puck following a tricky bounce of the boards and quick pass from forward Simon Lambert.

The second goal of the second period was scored when Jesse Newman stole the puck after Ramirez had trouble handling it in front of the net, and poked it home. The score going into the third period was 4-0 Tigers.

RIT added one more score with 13 ticks left in the game when Matt Crowell poke checked the puck away from a defender behind the net and wrapped around the net pushing the goal home.

Dan Ramirez turned away 30 shots in net for the Jackets while his counterpart Louis Menard stopped 18 shots for the Tigers.

AIC will travel to Mercyhurst College next weekend to take on the Lakers in a pair of contests scheduled to start at 7:05 pm.
