AIKEEM VANDERHORST NAMED NE-10 FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

SOUTH EASTON, Mass. (January 22, 2007) - Freshman Aikeem Vanderhorst (Bay Shore, N.Y.) of the American International College men's basketball team was named the Northeast-10 Freshman of the Week, it was announced by the conference office on Monday.  Vanderhorst was honored for his efforts in a 2-1 week last week.

Vanderhorst averaged 14.3 points and 8.0 rebounds per game in three games last week while shooting 63.3% from the floor (19-30).  Vanderhorst finished with 13 points in a non-league win over New Haven last Monday, then followed that up with 11 points and eight rebounds in a win over 2006 national semifinalist Stonehill Wednesday night.  Saturday, in a setback to Saint Anselm, Vanderhorst poured in a career-high 19 points and added 11 rebounds for his third double-double of the season.

For the season, Vanderhorst, who is the only player to start all 18 games for the 9-9 (7-6 NE-10) Yellow Jackets, is averaging 9.4 points and 6.1 rebounds per game while shooting .556 from the floor and .727 from the free throw line.  He has reached double figures in scoring eight times during the season.

AIC returns to action Tuesday night when it travels to UMass Lowell for a 7:30 game.
