Men's Lacrosse Drops 12-4 Decision at No. 9 Merrimack
North Andover, Mass. - The American International College men's
lacrosse team dropped a 12-4 decision at Merrimack Tuesday
afternoon. The Warriors, who are ranked ninth in the latest USILA
coaches' poll, improved to 10-2 on the season and 7-2 in the
Northeast-10, while the Yellow Jackets dropped to 1-9 overall and
0-9 in the conference. Freshman Mark Taylor (North Andover,
Mass.) made 20 saves in goal for AIC.
Merrimack opened the game on an 11-0 run over the first 25:59, which included each of junior Greg Rogowski's (Cohoes, N.Y.) game-high four goals. That run was broken on a goal from freshman Aaron McNab (West Springfield, Mass.) with 1:11 remaining in the first half.
The Yellow Jackets opened the second-half scoring with a goal from freshman Dan MacIsaac (Port Perry, Ont.) midway through the third quarter, with an assist from McNab. Freshman David Robinson (Lexington, Mass.) answered for the Warriors a minute and a half later, bur AIC scored each of the last two goals for the 12-4 final.
Freshman Alex Casparius (Portland, Maine) scored with 4:01 remaining in the third quarter and classmate Rich Grbic (West Simsbury, Conn.) added the first goal of his collegiate career with 47 seconds left in the contest.
Senior Eric Tompkins (Newington, Conn.) made 13 saves to register the win in goal for Merrimack, while sophomores Brian MacPhie (Scarboro, Maine) and Taylor Robarts (Duxbury, Mass.) and Robinson added two goals each.
The Yellow Jackets will close out the 2008 campaign Thursday
when they travel to Assumption for a 7 p.m. NE-10 contest.
