Men's Lacrosse Drops 18-5 Decision at Pace
Pleasantville, N.Y. - The American International College men's
lacrosse team dropped an 18-5 decision at Pace Wednesday afternoon
in a Northeast-10 contest. The Setters improved to 6-3 on the
season and 3-1 in the NE-10, while the Yellow Jackets dropped to
1-6 overall and 0-6 in conference play. Freshman Dan
MacIsaac (Port Perry, Ont.) scored two goals and handed
out one assist for AIC.
Pace led 3-0 after senior Justin Page's (Eagan, Minn.) man-up goal at the 8:46 mark of the first quarter and sophomore Nick Abraham (Tewksbury, Mass.) answered 29 seconds later to make it a 3-1 contest. The Setters then reeled off each of the next four goals, including a pair of markers from sophomore Joe Page (Eagan, Minn.) to take a 7-1 lead 1:39 into the second quarter.
Freshman Travis Ortensi (South Hadley, Mass.) snapped the streak a minute later from classmate Aaron McNab (West Springfield, Mass.) and the two teams traded man-up goals to make it an 8-3 contest with 8:09 left in the first half. Pace then scored five straight goals to take a commanding 13-3 lead at the half.
MacIsaac scored two of the first three goals in the third quarter, both during man-up situations, with a Justin Page goal in between to bring the score to 14-5 with 2:38 to go in the period. The Setters answered by scoring the final four goals of the game for the 18-5 final.
Justin Page scored a game-high five goals for Pace and senior Ryan Gregory (Bethpage, N.Y.) scored two goals with three assists for five points. McNab also had a three-assist game for the Yellow Jackets.
Senior Timothy Matheis (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) registered five saves in goal for the Setters, while freshman Max Castleman (Wilbraham, Mass.) allowed 13 goals with five saves in the first half in taking the loss for AIC. Classmate Mark Taylor (North Andover, Mass.) made six saves and allowed five goals in the second half.
The Yellow Jackets will next host Saint Michael's Tuesday at 4
p.m. at John Homer Miller Field.
