Second Half Surge Leads Saint Anselm Past Men's Lacrosse 15-7

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Saint Anselm outscored the American International College men's lacrosse team 10-2 in the second half en route to a 15-7 Northeast-10 victory Tuesday evening at Springfield College's Stagg Field. The Hawks improved to 3-3 on the season and 1-1 in the NE-10, while the Yellow Jackets dropped to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play. Freshmen Dan MacIsaac (Port Perry, Ont.) and Aaron McNab (West Springfield, Mass.) scored two goals each for AIC.

Saint Anselm opened the second half with a 7-0 run to break a 5-5 halftime tie and take control of the game. Junior Matt Surette (Wakefield, Mass.) scored two of his game-high five goals during that run, which was capped off by a goal from sophomore Jeff Dunkle (Exeter, N.H.) 2:36 into the fourth quarter.

AIC then scored two of the next three goals to make it a 13-7 contest with 5:57 left on the clock, but the Hawks answered with a pair of goals in the final two minutes for the 15-7 final

Dunkle finished the game with 1 goal and three assists and sophomore Matt O'Connell (Charlestown, Mass.) recorded a game-high four assists for Saint Anselm. Junior Leon Mularski (Ivoryton, Conn.) added a goal and an assist for the Yellow Jackets and won 12 of 21 faceoffs.

Freshman Pat Acone (Bow, N.H.) picked up the win in goal after entering the game after the half, making three saves and allowing two goals in 30 minutes. Freshman Mark Taylor (North Andover, Mass.) made 21 stops in goal for AIC in taking the loss.

The Yellow Jackets trailed 5-1 with 10 minutes left in the second quarter before closing the period on a 4-0 run to tie the game. MacIsaac started the run with 8:57 to go in the half and tied the game with 1:30 remaining ni the second stanza.

AIC returns to action Saturday when it hosts Franklin Pierce at 1 p.m. at John Homer Miller Field.
