MEN"S SOCCER POSTS FIRST-EVER WIN OVER SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE
MANCHESTER, N.H. (October 1, 2005) –
Sophomore Ryan Hunt’s (Saugerties, NY)
goal with 5:26 left to play snapped a 1-1 tie and lifted American
International College to a 2-1 victory over Southern New Hampshire
University here today in Northeast-10 Conference men’s soccer
action. It marked the first-ever win over the Penmen for AIC, which
improved to 5-4-1 overall and 4-3-1 in the league. SNHU, which
entered the game ranked sixth in New England among Division II
schools, dropped to 6-4-1 overall and 3-3-1 in the NE-10.
Senior Akill Jules (Port-of-Spain, Trinidad) created the game-winning scoring chance for the Yellow Jackets, as he carried the ball into the SNHU box and sent a shot off the far post from 10 yards out. The rebound went right to Hunt, who one-timed a shot home from 10 yards out. SNHU nearly tied the game just over a minute later when a lead pass from senior Romelle Burgess (St. Michael, Barbados) sent classmate Jeremy Bradshaw (St. Thomas, Barbados) in a breakaway. AIC netminder Michal Murphy (Ithaca, NY) came off his line and made a point blank save to preserve the win.
SNHU opened the scoring with 6:22 left in the first half when Bradshaw got behind the AIC backline and sent a low shot past Murphy from 15 yards out.
The Yellow Jackets evened the score at 1-1 in the 68th minute when junior Richard Speer (Springfield, MA) scored during a scramble in front of the SNHU after a corner kick by classmate Norbert Dusza (Holyoke, MA).
Sophomore Dan Pelc (Hamilton, Ontario) went the distance in net for the Penmen and recorded four saves, while Murphy finished with three saves for the Yellow Jackets.
