MEN'S SOCCER SURGES PAST SAINT ROSE 3-1
ALBANY, N.Y. (September 10, 2005) –
Goals by Akill Jules (Port-of-Spain, Trinidad) and
Chris Carrozza (Methuen, Mass.) in the second half
lifted the American International College men’s soccer team
to a 3-1 win over College of Saint Rose Saturday afternoon.
With the win the Yellow Jackets remain unbeaten with a 2-0-0 record
in Northeast-10 play and a 3-1-0 overall mark, while the Golden
Knights are 3-2-0 and 0-2-0 in the league.
The hosts would take a 1-0 lead in the game’s 14th minute when Mark Rabideau scored his first goal of the season on a feed from Todd Driscoll. Just over three minutes later, American International would tie the game at 1-1 when Benard Kessie (Worcester, Mass.) notched his fifth goal of the season on a penalty kick. The score would remain knotted at 1 heading into intermission.
Jules would score the eventual game-winner with just over 12 minutes to play. Gustavo Duarte (Leominster, Mass.) crossed a ball from the right side into Jules, who one-timed it past Saint Rose goalkeeper Peter Cappiello. AIC would double its lead at the 81:33 mark when Carrozza headed home a long cross from the foot of Marek Przybylek (Olsztyn, Poland).
Michael Murphy (Ithaca, N.Y.) made two saves en route to the victory, while Cappiello turned away six AIC attempts. The guests outshot Saint Rose 18-4 for the contest.
AIC returns to action Wednesday when it hosts Le Moyne in a 3:30
match.
