MEN'S SOCCER SUFFERS FIRST SETBACK OF SEASON
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (September 13, 2006) - The American
International College men's soccer team suffered its first defeat
of the season Wednesday, falling 2-1 to defending Northeast-10
Tournament champion Le Moyne College Wednesday afternoon. The
Yellow Jackets, who set a school record by winning their first four
games to start the season, are now 4-1-0 overall and 2-1-0 in NE-10
play, while the Dolphins are 4-3-0 overall and 3-2-0 in the league.
AIC jumped out to a 1-0 lead just over four minutes in when Marek Przybylek (Olsztyn, Poland) scored on a free kick at the top of the arc. The Yellow Jackets would maintain that lead until the 54th minute, when Matthew Pecheone slid a shot past AIC keeper Michael Murphy (Ithaca, N.Y.). The hosts would score the game-winner at the 64:43 mark when Brice Rudet knocked in a rebound.
Murphy finished with five saves for AIC, while Le Moyne netminder Steve White made six saves. Le Moyne outshot American International 20-13.
AIC returns to action Saturday night when it
hosts Franklin Pierce, the No. 3 team in this week's NSCAA Division
II poll. The game, which will be held at Lusitano Stadium in
Ludlow, Mass., is slated for a 7:00 kickoff.
