Men's Soccer Notches 2-1 Comeback Victory
Springfield, Mass -
Senior forward Euan McCraw (West Lothian,
Scotland) scored two goals within six minutes to help lift
the American International College men's soccer team to a 2-1
victory over Northeast-10 rival Assumption College Tuesday
afternoon. The contest was the first of the season for AIC who
moves to 1-0 overall and 1-0 in the Northeast-10. The loss drops
the Greyhounds to 1-1-1 overall and 0-1 in the Northeast-10.
The first-half was played evenly, with AIC out-shooting the Greyhounds 10-3. Both teams battled back-and-forth in what would prove to be a physically played contest. The Greyhounds grabbed the lead at the 58 minute mark in the second half when freshman striker Stephen Blaisdell punched in a goal after it was re-directed in front of the net.
The goal gave Assumption a 1-0 lead before McCraw would strike on his first goal just over seven minutes later. Ricky Morris (Victoria, Grenada) center the ball in front of the crease and Alex Dos Santos (Ludlow, Mass.) who earned two assists on the afternoon fired a shot on net that was blocked, leaving the ball perfectly placed for McGraw to fire in the game-tying goal.
AIC would strike again in almost the same fashion just over six minutes later. Des Santos again took a shot from within 15 yards of the net that was re-directed to McCraw, who powered in the game-winning goal.
Both teams battled to the finished. Assumptions had several chances to tie the score late in regulation but were unable to get the equalizer.
