SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The American International College men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to visiting Caldwell College Monday afternoon at AIC Park. The Cougars improved to 7-3-3 on the season, while the Yellow Jackets fell to 2-9-3 overall. Graduate student Mathew Marcoux (Blackstone, Mass.) made two saves in net for AIC.
After a scoreless first half freshman midfielder Franklin Nobre (Carteret, N.J.) took a feed from senior defender Jan Marco Jiras (Lima, Peru) and chipped it past Marcoux for the only goal the Cougars would need in the 63rd minute. Junior forward Chad Bennett (Kingston, Jamaica) added an insurance goal in the 70th minute for the 2-0 final.
Junior keeper John Plaugic (Kearny, N.J.) made eight saves to record his seventh win of the season, five of which came in the second half. The Yellow Jackets had a number of scoring opportunities in the match as they outshot the Cougars 17-10 overall and 10-5 in the second half. Caldwell had a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.
AIC will look to get back in the win column Saturday when it
hosts Stonehill at 3 p.m.
