Dolphins Blank Yellow Jackets 2-0

Boxscore

Springfield, Mass - Freshman Anthony Tranghese (East Longmeadow, Mass.) replaced an injured Mathew Marcoux (Blankstone, Mass.) in goal midway through the first-half, shielding the net for two saves in a valiant replacement effort, but it wasn't enough to lift the Yellow Jackets to a victory over the visiting Dolphins of Le Moyne College as they fell 2-0 in a Northeast-10 battle Wednesday afternoon at AIC Park.

Le Moyne used two goals, both at the end of the first and second period to edge the pesky Yellow Jackets. The Dolphins first goal was scored with under 10 minutes to play in the first-half. Steve Blackwell took a centering pass about 25 yards out from the goal from Dragon Mlikota and shot a ball that curved over the head of Tranghese for a score.

Both teams fought through the entire second-half. AIC was on the brink of tying the score with under a minute to go when Angelo Reina stole a free-kick from AIC and marched it down the field into an empty net. Tranghese was pulled into the box to attempt in helping the Yellow Jackets tie the score, and was caught out of position.

The Dolphins out-shot AIC 9-6 but the game was played very evenly on both sides. Steve White tipped away three shots between the pipes for the Dolphins.

The loss drops the Yellow Jackets to 1-2-3 overall and 1-1-1 in the Northeast-10. The win propels the Dolphins to 5-1-1 overall and 3-1-1 in conference play.

The Jackets will travel to Franklin Pierce to visit the Ravens September 15th at 7:00 pm
