Soccer Suffers 6-1 Setback to UMass-Lowell
Springfield, Mass. - Chris Charles (Brooklyn, NY) scored
American International College's lone goal in a 6-1 setback to the
visiting River Hawks of UMass-Lowell, in a Northeast-10 clash at
Lusitano Stadium in Ludlow, Mass. Saturday evening.
Matt Dubois notched a hat-trick for the River Hawks who move to 7-1-1 overall and 5-1 in the Northeast-10. The loss drops the Yellow Jackets to 1-5-3 overall and 1-4-1 in the NE-10.
Dubois scored the game's first two goals before the 10 minute mark in the first-stanza. Both of his scores game on assists from Matias Pietropinto. Pietropinto totaled four assists on the evening.
The Yellow Jacket's made the game interesting at the 34:15 point in the first-half when Charles took a directed shot off of the foot of Gustavo Duarte (Holyoke, Mass.) and hammered it into the goal, making the score 2-1.
UMass-Lowell would score once more before the end of the first-period when Jhony Valencia took a cross from the left of the box from Stephen Potcner and slide it past AIC goaltender Anthony Tranghese (East Longmeadow, Mass.). Tranghese stopped six shots in the losing effort.
Dubois started to put the game out of reach when he notched the hat-trick just before the 60 minute mark in the second-half, making the score 4-1.
Terrance Richardson and Potcner each scored goals to finish out the game as the River Hawks cruised to the easy 6-1 win.
AIC will take on St. Michael's at home this Wednesday at 4:00
