Yellow Jackets End in 1-1 Tie Against Felician

Springfield, Mass.  - The American International College men's soccer squad played to a 1-1 tie against non-conference foe Felician College this afternoon in the second game of the AIC Classic. The Yellow Jackets lone goal was scored by Derick Ofori (Pawtucket, RI). The Yellow Jackets overall record moves to 1-0-1 on the season while the Golden Falcons go to 0-1-1.

Felician started the scoring very early in the first-half. Armin Tandin was award a penalty kick after AIC was called for a hand-ball inside of the box. Tandin took advantage of the offering by striking a goal by AIC goalie Mathew Marcoux (Blackstone, Mass.).

AIC would even the score at the 10:04 mark in the first-frame, just under ten minutes after Tandin's goal when Ofori took a wonderfully placed feed from Gustavo Duarte (Leominster, Mass.) and struck it by Felician goalie Paulo Dos Santos. Theo Abbey (Brooklyn, NY) was awarded an assist after setting up the eventual goal.

Neither side could muster up another goal as the game ended after 110 minutes of play in 1-1 tie. AIC out-shot the Golden Falcons 21-8.

Marcoux turned away three shots in net for the Yellow Jackets while Dos Santos pushed back 11 Yellow Jacket attempts.

In the first contest this afternoon, Dominican College notched a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory over Merrimack College.

Merrimack took a goal from Jhonny Arteaga early in the first-half and held onto it until just under 14 minutes to play in the contest when Joseph Ruesgen tied the game up at one for the Chargers.

Ruesgen goal would led the contest into overtime were Ryan Clancy took a terrific feed from Ruesgen and tallied a game-winning-break away goal.

Tomorrow afternoon American International will square off against the victorious Chargers at 3:00 pm while the Warriors of Merrimack will take on Felician at 12:00 pm. Both games will be held at AIC Park, on campus, at American International College
