SOFTBALL HALVES TWINBILL WITH HAWKS

GAME 1 BOX SCORE     GAME 2 BOX SCORE

MANCHESTER, N.H. (April 29, 2007) - Junior Megan Nickerson (Greenfield, Mass.) allowed six hits to earn her sixth straight victory, improving her record to 6-1, as American International College split a Northeast-10 softball doubleheader with Saint Anselm College Sunday afternoon.  The Yellow Jackets, who are now 21-24 overall and 13-12 in NE-10 play, posted a 4-2 win in the opener before the Hawks (11-26, 8-15 NE-10) blanked AIC 2-0 in the nightcap.

With the loss in the second game, the Yellow Jackets have been mathematically eliminated from the six-team Northeast-10 Tournament field which begins Friday.

In the opener, Saint Anselm would take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but the Yellow Jackets plated two runs in the second.  Tara Demontier (Amesbury, Mass.) worked a leadoff walk and scored on a single by Brittany Provost (Delanson, N.Y.).  Provost would score on a single by Katelyn Elie (Worcester, Mass.).  AIC would score in the third when Teresa Bonavita (Agawam, Mass.) laced a one-out triple and came home on a single by Kayla Donnelly (Pittsfield, Mass.).  The Jackets' final run came in the fifth when Bonavita led off with a single and scored on a passed ball.

Bonavita and Donnelly each finished with a pair of hits for AIC as it outhit Saint Anselm 9-6.  Nickerson fanned two and scattered six hits while surrendering one earned run to pick up her sixth win in seven appearances.

In the nightcap, Saint Anselm scored both of its runs in the fourth when Jocelyn Savastano and Moira McCabe led off the frame with back to back base hits and came home on a two-run single by Nicole Baginski.

Donnelly, Demontier and Provost each had hits for the Yellow Jackets as they were limited to three hits in game two.  Sara Swepston (Dallas, Pa.) took the loss for AIC, allowing five hits and a pair of earned runs.

AIC hosts Stonehill for a twinbill on Monday before wrapping up the season Tuesday with a single game against Merrimack.
