SOFTBALL POSTS WIN AND TIE AGAINST STONEHILL

GAME 1 BOX SCORE     GAME 2 BOX SCORE

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 30, 2007) - Teresa Bonavita (Agawam, Mass.) drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the 12th inning as American International College took a wild 14-13 victory in the front end of a Northeast-10 softball doubleheader with Stonehill College Monday.  AIC and Stonehill played to a 8-8 tie in the nightcap due to darkness after six innings.  AIC is now 22-24-1 overall and 14-12-1 in NE-10 play, while the Skyhawks are 13-24-1 and 12-15-1 in the league.

AIC, which had rallied from four and three-run deficits in the 10th and 11th innings, started the 12th inning tied 13-13 and with Ashley Deegan (Madison, Conn.) at second due to international tiebreaker rules.  Deegan, who belted a grand slam in the 10th to tie the game at 10-10, was bunted over to third by Michelle Franey (Abington, Mass.).  Bonavita would then deliver a single, her second hit of the game, to score Deegan.

In the 11th, Stonehill came up with three runs in the top of the frame to take a 13-10 lead, two of those coming on a single by Stephanie Folan.  AIC would respond with three runs in the bottom of the frame, with a Deanna Zanetti (Hampden, Mass.) double making it 13-12 and a single by Katelyn Elie (Worcester, Mass.) plating Zanetti to tie the game.

Stonehill trailed 6-3 heading into the seventh but plated three runs in that inning to stay alive.  Courtney Young would deliver a two-run single to make it 6-5, and Caitlin Flanagan would plate Young with a single as the tying run.  AIC used a three-run third highlighted by a two-run single by Tara DeMontier (Amesbury, Mass.) to tie the game at 3-3 and scored twice in the fourth on a two-run home run by Elie and once more in the fifth to make it 6-3.

DeMontier, Elie and Kellie Brown (Gill, Mass.) all had three hits apiece in the opener, with Elie driving in three runs.  Franey, Bonavita, Zanetti and Brittany Provost (Delanson, N.Y.) had two hits apiece.  Megan Nickerson (Greenfield, Mass.) won her seventh straight decision, allowing seven hits over six innings to improve to 7-1.  Young and Kate Brides paced Stonehill with three hits apiece, while Folan drove in three runs.  Danielle Mason took the loss for the Skyhawks.

In the nightcap, Stonehill plated three runs in the top of the first, two of those coming on a Flanagan double, but the Yellow Jackets would take a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the frame courtesy of a grand slam by Brown.  The Skyhawks would pick up four more runs in the fourth to take a 7-5 lead, three of those coming on a home run by Yesenia Marrero.

AIC retook the lead in the bottom of the fourth, with DeMontier rapping a two-run double that plated Provost and Bonavita.  DeMontier would score the go-ahead run on a double steal.  The Skyhawks would score the games final run in the top of the sixth when Gina Vivona led off the frame with a walk and scored on a Lauren Rappoli single.

DeMontier, Zanetti and Provost each had a pair of hits for AIC, which outhit Stonehill 12-11 in the nightcap.  Folan had three hits and two runs scored for the Skyhawks in the nightcap, while Marrero was 2-4 with three RBI.  Jaime Ippolito also had a pair of hits.

AIC wraps up its 2007 season with a single game against Merrimack on Tuesday beginning at 4:00.
