SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH LEAGUE-LEADING BRYANT

GAME 1 BOX SCORE     GAME 2 BOX SCORE

SMITHFIELD, R.I. (April 9, 2007) - Brittany Provost (Delanson, N.Y.) went a combined 5-7 with three runs batted in as American International College split a Northeast-10 softball doubleheader with Bryant University Monday afternoon.  The Yellow Jackets, who pounded out 18 hits in the opener en route to a 7-0 shutout, are now 9-15 and 3-3 in Northeast-10 play, while the Bulldogs took a 5-2 win in the nightcap to move to 12-7 and 8-2 in the league.

In the opener, AIC belted out 18 hits but didn't get on the board until the fourth inning when Tara DeMontier (Amesbury, Mass.) reached on a one-out double and scored on a two-bagger by the next batter, Deanna Zanetti (Hampden, Mass.).  The Yellow Jackets would plate four runs in the fifth as they collected six hits in the frame and closed out the scoring with two more runs in the sixth.

Provost finished the first game 3-4 with two RBI while Zanetti and Michelle Franey (Abington, Mass.) also finished the opener with three hits.  Teresa Bonavita (Agawam, Mass.), Kayla Donnelly (Pittsfield, Mass.) and DeMontier all finished with a pair of hits.  Sarah Swepston (Dallas, Pa.) earned her fourth straight win, allowing five hits in the shutout win while striking out four.

After Bryant staked itself to a 2-0 lead in the nightcap, the Yellow Jackets got a run back in the top of the second when a Provost double plated Zanetti.  The Bulldogs would make it 3-1 in the fifth and scored two more times in the sixth before Bonavita closed out the scoring in the seventh when her single scored Provost.

Zanetti and Provost each finished with two hits in the second game, while Bonavita extended her hitting streak to nine games with her seventh inning single.  Provost and Donnelly have each hit in eight straight games.  Sara Puglisi (Amsterdam, N.Y.) took the loss for AIC, allowing six hits while fanning four.

AIC returns to action Wednesday when it travels to Pace.
