SOFTBALL SWEEPS PHILADELPHIA SCIENCES

GAME 1 BOX SCORE     GAME 2 BOX SCORE

PHILADELPHIA (March 13, 2007) - Junior Tara DeMontier (Amesbury, Mass.) belted a home run in both ends of the doubleheader as American International College swept a softball doubleheader with University of the Sciences by scores of 5-3 and 11-7.  The Yellow Jackets improve to 3-5 on the season while the Devils now sit at 3-9.

In the opener, the Yellow Jackets would open up a 4-0 lead after three innings and withstood a USIP rally that saw them score three times in the bottom of the sixth.  DeMontier homered in the fifth to give AIC a 5-0 lead.  Kayla Donnelly (Pittsfield, Mass.) and Deanna Zanetti (Hampden, Mass.) were each 2-4 at the plate, while Kellie Brown (Gill, Mass.) was 1-2 with an RBI triple and two walks.  Sara Puglisi (Amsterdam, N.Y.) picked up the win for AIC, fanning eight in a complete-game effort.

In the nightcap, AIC broke a 4-4 tie in the top of the third with a four-run inning.  The Yellow Jackets would take advantage of a pair of Devil errors in the frame, with Teresa Bonavita (Agawam, Mass.) and Brown each recording RBIs in the inning that gave AIC a 8-4 lead.

Bonavita was 2-4 with a pair of runs scored.  Katelyn Elie (Worcester, Mass.) was  2-2 with four runs batted in and a pair of walks, as she delivered a first inning grand slam to stake the guests to a 4-0 lead.  DeMontier would lead off the fourth inning with her second home run of the day to make it 9-4, as she went 2-3 with two runs scored in the nightcap.  Sara Swepston (Dallas, Pa.) earned the win for the Yellow Jackets, going the distance in the circle.

AIC remains in Philadelphia to face Holy Family University in a doubleheader Wednesday.
