ELIE EARNS NORTHEAST-10 FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK HONORS

SOUTH EASTON, Mass. (March 19, 2007) - Freshman catcher Katelyn Elie (Worcester, Mass.) of the American International College softball team was named the Northeast-10 Conference Freshman of the Week on Monday.  In addition, junior third baseman Tara DeMontier (Amesbury, Mass.) was named to the weekly honor roll.

Elie, a graduate of Burncoat HS, batted .444 with a home run and five runs batted in in a 3-1 week for the Yellow Jackets.  The highlight of her week came Tuesday against Philadelphia Sciences, as she belted a first-inning grand slam in the second game to stake the Yellow Jackets to a 4-0 lead.

DeMontier batted .583 in four games last week with three home runs and four runs batted in while slugging 1.333.  She hit home runs in both ends of a the doubleheader sweep against Philadelphia Sciences then hit another home run in a doubleheader with Holy Family Wednesday. She is AIC's leading hitter thus far with a .385 batting average.
