BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Mar. 25, 2007) - Senior Jill Fisher went
6-for-6 with three home runs, and set the C.W. Post softball career
home runs record in the process as the host Pioneers swept past
American International Sunday afternoon. C.W. Post held on for a
5-3 victory in game one, before winning by a 10-2 count in five
innings in the nightcap.
Game 1: C.W. Post 5, American International 3
Fisher (3-for-3) set the school record with her 23rd career home
run on a two-run shot in the bottom of the first inning, pulling an
0-1 pitch over the right-field fence to score Melissa Medina
(lead-off single) and give the hosts a 2-0 lead.
The Pioneers scored three more runs in the fourth inning to give
starting pitcher Samantha Yodowitz (7 IP, 7 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 6 K) a
5-0 advantage. Sophomore Megan Correia led off the inning with a
double to left field, and moved to third base on a pinch-hit single
by Shannon Kulnis two batters later. Kelsey Cooley brought home
Correia on a single through the right side of the infield, before
Fisher's double to the center-field fence scored Ashley Marchese
(re-entered for Kulnis) and Cooley.
AIC got back one run in the top of the fifth inning, when Teresa
Bonavita (1-for-3) lifted a sacrifice fly to center field to score
pinch-runner Jen Gonyea. The Yellow Jackets then pulled to within a
5-3 score with a pair of runs in the sixth inning; Deanna Zanetti's
RBI triple scored Michelle Franey, before Katelyn Elie (2-for-3)
drove home Zanetti on a single to right-center.

allowing five earned runs and eight hits in 3.2 innings of
work.
Game 2: C.W. Post 10, American International 2 (5 inn.)
The C.W. Post (11-7) offense exploded for 12 hits in game two,
including four home runs. Freshman Christie Softy led off the
bottom of the second inning with a triple, and scored on a wild
pitch. Freshman Katie Fisher, Jill's younger sister, then doubled
the lead when she hit a two-out home run to right-center field for
her first collegiate round-tripper. The Pioneers would score three
more times in the inning to take a 5-0 lead, with Medina (3-for-4,
2B, 3 R, SB) scoring on an infield error and Jill Fisher roping a
two-run homer to right-center to score Cooley (1-for-3, 3 R, 2 RBI)
and herself.
AIC (4-10) scored a pair of runs off starting pitcher Katie Fisher
(2.2. IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, K) in the top of the third inning, and
loaded the bases against the rookie. Yodowitz (9-3 record) entered
the game and ended the threat by forcing a ground out to the first
batter she faced.
Jill Fisher roped a three-run homer to center field in the bottom
of the fourth inning to push the Pioneers advantage to 8-2, before
Cooley launched her first homer of the season, a two-run shot to
right field, with one out in the fifth inning to end the game via
the mercy rule.
Franey had two hits in the nightcap for AIC,
while Bonavita and Kayla Donnelly each extended their hit streaks
to eight games apiece.
Yodowitz retired all seven batters she faced to earn the victory,
striking out two batters in the process.
