YELLOW JACKETS, PURPLE KNIGHTS HALVE SOFTBALL TWINBILL

GAME 1 BOX SCORE     GAME 2 BOX SCORE

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (March 28, 2007) - Visiting American International College and University of Bridgeport split a non-conference softball doubleheader Wednesday afternoon at Seaside Park.  The Purple Knights (4-12) took a 2-1 win in the first game before the Yellow Jackets (5-11) took down a 6-1 triumph in the nightcap.

In game two, AIC scored at least one run in five of the first six innings to take down the win as it outhit Bridgeport 9-6 in the nightcap.  The guests took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Kayla Donnelly (Pittsfield, Mass.) reached on an error and Kellie Brown (Gill, Mass.) knocked her in with a triple.  Brittany Provost (Delanson, N.Y.) led off the second with a solo home run to make it 2-0, while Tara DeMontier (Amesbury, Mass.) made it 4-1 in the fourth when her two-run double plated Katelyn Elie (Worcester, Mass.) and Provost.

Provost was 3-3 with three runs scored in the nightcap, while Brown notched a pair of hits.  Deanna Zanetti (Hampden, Mass.) and Teresa Bonavita (Agawam, Mass.) had AIC's other RBI's, as Zanetti's fifth inning single plated Brown, while Bonavita closed out scoring in the sixth when her single scored Provost.

Sara Puglisi (Amsterdam, N.Y.) went the distance in the circle for AIC to take down the victory, scattering six hits while fanning four.

In the opener, AIC staked itself to a 1-0 lead in the fourth when Donnelly led off the frame with a single and after advancing to third on a stolen base and a passed ball scored on a groundout by Brown.  Bridgeport would tie the game in the sixth when Nicole Composto singled and came home on a Brittany Weller hit.  The Purple Knights came up with the game-winner in the bottom of the seventh with two outs when Composto drove in Brittany Steiner, who had reached on a one-out walk.

Nicole Benoit (Brockton, Mass.) had a pair of hits for AIC.  Ashley Deegan (Madison, Conn.) was the hard-luck loser for the Yellow Jackets, allowing just three hits in her complete game effort while fanning four.  She retired the first 15 batters she faced until Composto's leadoff single in the sixth.

AIC is slated to host its home opener Saturday when it entertains Franklin Pierce in a noon doubleheader.
