BONAVITA COLLECTS 100TH CAREER HIT IN SOFTBALL SPLIT

GAME 1 BOX SCORE     GAME 2 BOX SCORE

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (March 31, 2007) - Teresa Bonavita (Agawam, Mass.) had a total of four hits, including the 100th of her career, as her American International College softball team split a doubleheader with Franklin Pierce College Saturday afternoon at Groff Field.  FPC (4-8, 1-1) took a 2-1 win in the first game before AIC (6-12, 1-1) pounded out 13 hits in the nightcap to take a 9-3 triumph.

Bonavita, a junior, collected her 100th career hit with a single in the bottom of the first inning of the first game.  She now has 103 career hits.

In the second game, AIC would score three times in the bottom of the second to take a 3-1 lead, with two of those runs coming off a Tara DeMontier (Amesbury, Mass.) double.  The Ravens would score twice in the top of the third to knot the game at 3-3 before the Yellow Jackets scored twice in each of the last three innings to secure the victory.  Kayla Donnelly (Pittsfield, Mass.) drove in the game-winning run in the fourth when she slapped a single past a drawn-in infield to plate DeMontier.

Katelyn Elie (Worcester, Mass.) went 3-4 in the nightcap with an RBI and a run scored.  DeMontier, Bonavita and Donnelly collected two hits apiece with each driving in a pair of runs.  Elaine Matthews had a home run in the top of the second for FPC to give it a 1-0 lead, but the Ravens would muster just four hits in the finale.

Sara Swepston (Dallas, Pa.) pitched the final 3.1 innings in relief to pick up the win, not allowing a hit.  She relieved Megan Nickerson (Greenfield, Mass.), who gave up four hits and fanned three in 3.2 innings.  Becky Aalto took the loss for the guests, allowing nine hits in five innings without a strikeout.

In the opener, FPC took a 1-0 lead in the second when Michelle McConnell hit a one-out double and scored when Kiley Molinari reached on an error.  The Ravens would pick up another run in the sixth when Kristen Tracy led off the frame with a single and scored on a Molinari single.  AIC would halve the lead in the bottom of the sixth when Michelle Franey (Abington, Mass.) hit her first career home run, but that would be as close as AIC would get.

Courtney Jacobs picked up the win for the Ravens, scattering seven hits while fanning seven.   Sara Puglisi (Amsterdam, N.Y.) allowed six hits in her complete-game effort, fanning nine and allowing just one earned run.  Bonavita was 2-4 at the plate in the opener, while Jacobs helped her own cause at the plate with a pair of hits.

AIC hosts Post University Sunday in a 1:30 doubleheader.
