AIC Splits With Post

Springfield, Mass. -  Junior Sara Puglisi (Amsterdam, N.Y.) pitched a complete game, allowing only three runs on seven hits as the AIC softball team earned a split from the Post Eagles grabbing game one 4-3, but falling in game two 6-2, in a pair of non-conference contests Wednesday afternoon. With the split, the Yellow Jackets move to 8-5 on the season. The Eagles go to an even 9-9.

Despite giving up three runs in the first inning, Puglisi settled down allowing only three more hits and no runs over the final six innings of play. Behind her strong pitching the Yellow Jackets rallied to score four runs and earn the game one victory.

AIC tied the game in the third frame. The Yellow Jackets grabbed three runs when Nicole Bentoit (Wolpole, Mass.) smacked a fly ball to center field with the bases loaded that was dropped, allowing Katie Elie (Worcester, Mass.), Deanna Zanetti (Hampden, Mass.) and Tara Gorenc (Southwick, Mass.) to cross home.

Tara DeMontier (Amesbury, Mass.) doubled home Kayla Donnelly (Pittsfield, Mass.) in the fifth inning, giving the Yellow Jackets what proved to be the game winning run.

In game two, Kellie Brown (Gill, Mass.) earned the only RBI of the contest for AIC, driving home Michelle Franey (Abington, Mass.) in the fifth inning as the Yellow Jackets gave up a four run third inning and fell 6-2.

Sara Swepston (Dallas, Pa.) pitched five innings allowing six runs while Ashley Deegan came in and pitched one perfect inning despite the loss.

The Yellow Jackets will host Bridgeport College tomorrow afternoon starting at 2:30 pm
