Track & Field Competes at Fitchburg State's Jim Sheehan Memorial Meet
Fitchburg, Mass. - The American International College track & field teams competed at Fitchburg State's Jim Sheehan Memorial Meet Saturday, where the men's team placed eighth and the women's squad tied for 14th at the 18-team meet. Freshman Maurice Calenda (Bloomfield, Conn.) won the long jump with a distance of 6.85 meters and also took home a first-place finish in the triple jump at 13.76 meters. He placed 10th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.27 seconds.
Freshman Courtney Roberts led the women's team with a fifth-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.12 seconds and finished 16th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 14.20 seconds.
Freshman Terry Goldson (Ansonia, Conn.) was the runner-up in the high jump after clearing 1.81 meters and placed ninth in the triple jump with a distance if 11.75 meters. Freshman Justin Roberts (Sutton, Mass.) also performed well in the high jump, placing fifth a 1.76 meters.
Freshman Deion Lawson (Rahway, N.J.) tied for fourth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.39 seconds and placed eighth in the triple jump at 11.83 meters. Freshman Matthew Hegarty (Springfield, Mass.) finished ninth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:59.10.
Sophomore Leonard Bunion (Rahway, N.J.) placed seventh in the shot put with a throw of 12.25 meters and freshman Paul Skarka (Ballston, Spa, N.Y.) finished 12th with a toss of 11.39 meters. AIC's men's 400-meter relay team placed third in 44.61 seconds
Freshman Sarah Beaudoin (Chicopee, Mass.)
finished 16th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:42.47 and
classmate Jessica Vega (Central Falls, R.I.)
finished 17th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:13:08.
