Calenda Earns NE-10 Field Athlete and Freshman of the Week Honors, Four Yellow Jackets Make Weekly Honor Roll

South Easton, Mass. - Freshman Maurice Calenda (Bloomfield, Conn.) of the American International College track & field team was named the Northeast-10 Field Athlete and Freshman of the week after leading the Yellow Jackets to a third-place finish at Westfield State's Jerry Gravell Classic. Junior Kevin Farrell (Wilbraham, Mass.) of the baseball team and senior Tara DeMontier (Amesbury, Mass.), junior Kellie Brown (Gill, Mass.) and Sara Swepston (Dallas, Pa.) of the softball team were named to the conference's weekly honor roll.

Calenda won the long jump and the triple jump with respective jumps of 6.82 meters and 13.80 meters. He also won the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.05 seconds and was a member of the third place 400-meter relay team that clocked in at 44.8 seconds.

Farrell batted .381 (8-21) with two doubles, two runs scored and five RBI for the baseball team. He went 3-for-6 with two RBI and a run scored in a doubleheader at Bloomfield and was 3- for- 7 with two RBI and a run scored in a doubleheader split with Merrimack.

Brown batted .350 (7-20) with a homer, two doubles, three runs scored, four RBI and a .600 slugging percentage in a 3-3 week for the softball team. She went 3 for 7 with a double, an RBI and a run scored against Bridgeport and went 2 for 6 with a double, two RBI and a run scored against UMass Lowell.

DeMontier batted .375 (6-16) with two doubles, one triple, one home run, five RBI and a .813 slugging percentage. She went 2 for 2 with a home run and bases-clearing triple in the 5-4 win over Bridgeport and was 3 for 5 with two doubles and a RBI at Post.

Swepson was 1-1 in three appearances this past week with a 2.19 ERA and eight strikeouts. She recorded two strikeouts while tossing a complete game shutout in a doubleheader against UMass Lowell.
