Men's Track & Field Places Sixth at NE-10 Outdoor Championships
Smithfield, R.I. - The American International College men's track & field team placed sixth of nine teams at the 2008 Northeast-10 Outdoors Track & Field Championships, hosted by Bryant University. Freshman Maurice Calenda (Bloomfield, Conn.) recorded three top-10 individual finishes to lead the Yellow Jackets.
Freshman Terry Goldson (Ansonia, Conn.) tied for second in the high jump after clearing 1.88 meters. Calenda placed fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 13.10 meters and placed seventh in the long jump at 6.32 meters.
Freshman Deion Lawson (Rahway, N.J.) placed sixth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.99 seconds and placed seventh in the triple jump at 12.79 meters. Freshman Paul Skarka (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) placed sixth in the discus throw at 36.16 meters.
Junior Leonard Jusme (Pawtucket, R.I.) was one of three Yellow Jackets to place in the top-10 in the 100 meter dash with a sixth-place time of 11.67 seconds. He was followed by Calenda in seventh with a time of 11.71 seconds and freshman Lloyd Brown (Bloomfield, Conn.) clocked in with a ninth-place time of 11.88 seconds.
Sophomore Leonard Bunion (Rahway, N.J.) placed fourth in the discus throw and eighth in the shot put with respective distances of 37.23 meters and 12.50 meters. Freshman Justin Roberts (Sutton, Mass.) placed fifth in the javelin throw with a toss of 51.23 meters.
AIC's 4x800-meter relay team placed fourth with a time of 8:32.60 and its 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relay teams placed fifth with respective times of 44.60 seconds and 3:37.62.
