AIC FALLS TO ADELPHI IN SECOND MATCH OF THE SEASON
GARDEN CITY, NY. (September 2, 2006) - The American
International College women's volleyball team dropped its first
match of the year Saturday morning to Adelphi University 3-1
(31-29, 23-30, 30-26, 30-22), in the Adelphi September Showcase at
Woodruff Hall. Despite the loss the Yellow Jackets were once again
led by stand-out senior Zane Berzina (Talsi,
Latvia) who had a game high 15 kills and 17 digs. The loss drops
the Yellow Jackets to 1-1-0 overall on the season and the win
improves the Panthers to 2-0-0.
The Yellow Jackets dropped the first set 31-29, but were able to nod the match up at one by winning the second set 30-23, before dropping the last two sets and the match.
Adelphi's attack was led by junior Kathleen Creegan (North Bellmore, N.Y.) who had a team high 14 kills to go along with 11 digs. The Panthers also received a great match from freshman Kelsey Hackett (Alta Loma, CA) who had 16 digs.
American International's junior Charisse Trotman (Bristol, Conn.) added nine kills and five digs of her own, while freshman Jessica Provan (San Clemente, Calif) led the team with 23 assist.
AIC will take on Philadelphia Bible today at 1 p.m. in their
final match of the Adelphi September Showcase.
