All Northeast Region Teams Announced

PHILADELPHIA (March 7, 2007) - American International
College junior forward Alexis Castro leads the
2006-07 Daktronics All-Northeast Region team, earning Player of the
Year honors. A first-year player with the Yellow Jackets,
Castro helped Head Coach Pete Cinella's team to a berth in the
upcoming NCAA Division II Tournament.
A native of Chula Vista, Calif., Castro ranks second in the Northeast 10 in scoring with 17.8 ppg while her 10.7 rpg tops the conference. Joining Castro on the first-team are senior forward Meg Abele of Philadelphia University, junior guard Kelly Killion of Holy Family University, freshman forward Johanna Leedham of Franklin Pierce College and junior forward Kate Lynch of the Southern Connecticut State.
A second-team All-Region selection a year ago, Abele tops the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) in scoring this season with 21.8 ppg including 69 three-point field goals. Killion, the CACC Player of the Year this season, has led the Tigers to a 28-2 overall mark this season and the #5 seed in the upcoming NCAA Northeast Regional, posting 14.7 ppg and 4.3 apg while leading the conference with 91 three-point field goals. Leedham has made an immediate impact for the Ravens as a freshman, having broken no less than 17 school records en route to 23.1 ppg and 7.9 rpg while being tabbed the Northeast 10 Player of the Week six times. Rounding out the first-team selections is Lynch, who has led the Owls to a second consecutive top seed in the NCAA Division II Northeast Region and a #4 national ranking. The 2007 Northeast 10 Player of the Year, Lynch leads Southern Connecticut in scoring with 18.0 ppg to go along with 5.8 rpg.
Five players were selected to the second team, comprised of four seniors and one junior. The team consisted of center Alisha Ferguson of Philadelphia University; guard Cherrise Graham of Goldey-Beacom College, forward Ashley Hilton of the University of New Haven and center Angelina Jiminez of the University of Bridgeport, along with the lone junior, guard Shamika Jackson of Southern Connecticut, who earned second-team honors for the second straight year.
Sports Information Directors throughout the Northeast Region conducted the voting. The 2006-2007 Daktronics Women's Basketball All-America team will be announced in conjunction with the 2007 NCAA Division II "Elite Eight" in Kearney, Neb. The five first-team members from each of the country's eight regions are placed on the national ballot with Division II SIDs selecting first, second and third-team All-America honorees. The team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing, and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition.
