Women's Hoops Wins Second Straight

Springfield, Mass. - Behind a double-double from senior forward Alexis Castro, that included 26 points and 13 rebounds, the American International College women's hoops team earned a 57-43 victory over the visiting Hawks of St. Anslem College in a Northeast-10 match-up Saturday afternoon. The win improves the Jackets to 10-6 overall and 7-5 in the conference. The loss drops St. Anselm to 5-13 overall and 2-11 in the Northeast-10.

Three Yellow Jackets, Stacy Boisvert, Alissa Rubino and Kristin Boesenberg each dropped seven points for AIC, who held a six point halftime lead, and led by as many as 18 in the second frame. Rubino played extremely well at the point for the Jackets, dishing off eight helpers to lead the team to their second Northeast-10 triumph of the week.

The two squads coasted back-and-forth throughout the first and much of the second half, leading to five lead changes. The Yellow Jackets shot 39 percent to the Hawks 28.6 percent from the field. AIC also out shot the Hawks from downtown earning five more three-point buckets than the visitors. .

In the loss, Courtney May led the team with eight points while Erin Huggins and Justine Lyons each scored six for St. Anselm.

With AIC sticking to a 13 point lead, the Hawks began fouling the Yellow Jackets with just over two minutes on the clock. Rubino knocked down a pair of foul shots with 1:40 showing on the clock while Jeannette Johnathan added a pair at the 1:21 mark, giving AIC a 16 point lead and all but putting the game out of reach for St. Anslem.

AIC will return to action when they host Umass-Lowell this Tuesday at 5:30 pm.
