Castro's 22 Points Lead AIC Past Saint Michael's 64-48
Colchester, Vt.. - The American International College women's basketball team recorded its second straight win after defeating Saint Michael's 64-48. The Yellow Jackets are now 4-2 on the season and 3-2 in the Northeast-10, while the Purple Knights fell to 5-3 overall and 3-2 in conference play. Senior forward Alexis Castro (Chula Vista, Calif.) led all scorers with 22 points in the win.
Junior guard Jen Moussette (Southampton, Mass.) added 12 points on 4 of 5 shooting from 3-point range and junior guard Jeannette Johnathan (Central Islip, N.Y.) netted nine points with three boards. Senior center Jen Nnanna (Somerset, N.J.) recorded seven blocked shots, grabbed six rebounds and scored four points.
Senior guard Allison Dunn (Whippany, N.J.) and junior center Anna Florent (Fort Wayne, Ind.) scored 14 points each for Saint Michael's. Florent also had a team-best seven rebounds. Sophomore forward Michelle Otey (Southborough, Mass.) scored 11 points with five rebounds and four assists.
AIC held a 30-24 lead at halftime and opened the second half with an 18-2 run to put the game out of reach at 48-26 with 14:04 to go in the game. The Purple Knights went on a 10-0 run to pull within 12 of the Yellow Jackets at 57-45 with 6:04 to go, but AIC scored seven of the final 10 points for the 64-48 final
The Yellow Jackets return to action Saturday when they host
defending national champion Southern Connecticut at 1:30 p.m. at
Butova Gymnasium in a Northeast-10 contest.
