Women's Basketball Wins Third Straight After 65-55 Victory Over Bentley

Box Score

Springfield, Mass. - Behind Alexis Castro's (Chula Vista, Calif.) 10th double-double of the season, the American International College women's basketball team defeated the Falcons of Bentley College 65-55 in a Northeast-10 showdown Wednesday evening. The win is the third in the row for AIC who improved to 14-9 overall and the 10-8 in the Northeast-10. The loss drops Bentley to 15-8 overall and 12-6 in conference action.

The Yellow Jackets led by as many as 17 outscoring the Falcons by 10 points in the paint. Bentley never led, much in part to a tight defensive effort from the host team. Jeannette Johnathan (Central Islip, NY) was the impact player in the win for AIC, dropping 16 points, while going a perfect three-for-three from outside.

The Falcons were led by Vanessa Lux who had 11 points and a team-best four rebounds. Kristy McLean had eight points in the losing effort.

The first half swung back-and-forth, with the Yellow Jackets maintaining only a five point advantage at the intermission.  Johnathan led all scorers with 10 points going into the break.

In the second half, AIC was led by Castro who totaled 14 points, finishing with 19 on the game. Her 12 boards led the team. The Jackets broke open their largest lead at the 9:47 point after graduate-student Alissa Rubino (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) took an outlet pass from Castro and strolled to the hoop for a bucket. AIC never looked back, holding on to the edge for over two minutes before Mclean drained a three to cut the deficit to 14.

Stacy Boisvert (Agawam, Mass.) also notched double-digits for AIC earning 12 points to go along with four boards while Rubino chipped in with nine points and a pair of helpers.

AIC will hit the road to face St. Rose Saturday afternoon at 1:30 pm.
