Women's Basketball Snaps Three-Game Skid at Dominican 54-37

Blauvelt, N.Y. - The American International College women's basketball team snapped a three-game losing skid Thursday night with a 54-37 victory at Dominican (N.Y.) in a non-conference contest. The Yellow Jackets improved to 12-9 on the season and the Chargers, who were ranked sixth in the latest NCAA Northeast Regional Rankings, dropped to 16-6. Senior forward Alexis Castro (Chula Vista, Calif.) recorded game-highs of 16 points and 14 rebounds for AIC.

The Yellow Jackets opened the game on a 12-3 run over the first six minutes of the contest and was capped off by a Castro layup at the 13:52 mark of the first half. She scored eight of her 16 points during that run.

Dominican pulled to within five points at 19-14 with 7:44 to go in the first period, but AIC closed the half on a 9-2 run to take a 28-17 lead at halftime. The Yellow Jackets opened the second frame with a 6-0 run to open a 17-point lead five minutes into the period to put the game out of reach.

Junior forward Stacy Boisvert (Agawam, Mass.) also registered a double-double for AIC with 14 points and 12 boards and senior center Mirlande Francois (Miami, Fla.) added six points with 11 boards. Graduate student Alissa Rubino (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) chipped in with eight points and five rebounds.

Sophomore guard/forward Adle Laskowski (Wayne, N.J.) scored a team-best 12 points with three rebounds, three assists and three steals to lead the Chargers.

Dominican's 37 points were a season-low and were the fewest allowed by the Yellow Jackets this season. The Chargers were averaging 66.8 points per game entering tonight's contest. AIC outscored Dominican 24-14 in the paint and held a 20-9 advantage in second chance scoring thanks to a season-high 21 offensive boards.

The Yellow Jackets return to action Saturday when they travel to Bryant for a 1:30 p.m. Northeast-10 contest.
