Women's Basketball Rallies to Beat Southern New Hampshire 50-45
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Yellow Jackets trailed 31-41 midway through the second half before closing the game with a 19-4 run to post a 50-45 come-from-behind victory over Southern New Hampshire Saturday at Butova Gymnasium. American International College improved to 8-4 on the season and 5-3 in the Northeast-10, while the Penmen dropped to 5-7overall and 3-6 in conference play.
Senior forward Alexis Castro (Chula Vista, Calif.) netted a team-high 16 points and grabbed six rebounds for the Yellow Jackets. Junior forward Stacy Boisvert (Agawam, Mass.) scored 15 points with eight rebounds and a career-high four assists.
Southern New Hampshire was led by sophomore forward Julia Houghtaling's (Franconia, N.H.) game-high 18 points and five rebounds. Senior forward Sara Tucker (Red Hook, N.Y.) added 11 points and four boards.
The game was tied at 17 with 5:22 remaining in the first half before the Penmen went on an 11-1 run to take a 28-18 lead and held a 30-23 advantage at halftime.
AIC made 11-23 field goal attempts in the second half, while Southern New Hampshire went 7-26 from the floor. The Yellow Jackets shot just 28.6 percent (8-28) from the field in the first half. The Penmen were 11-12 from the free throw line in the first half, but were just 1-3 in the second stanza.
AIC will next host Le Moyne Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in a
Northeast-10 contest.
