Castro Receives Dactronics All-Northeast Region Honors

PHILADELPHIA - Senior Alexis Castro (Chula Vista, Calif.) of the American International College women's basketball team has been named to the 2007-08 Dactronics all-Northeast Region Team. She has also advanced to the national ballot for all-America consideration.

Castro, who earned Dactronics first-team all-region, region Player of the Year and second-team all-America honors in 2007, led the Yellow Jackets and ranked third in the Northeast-10 in scoring and rebounding with 18.7 points and 9.1 rebounds per game and is second on the team with 54 assists on the season. The two-time first-team Norhteast-10 all-star also had a team-best 13 double-doubles. Her 18.7 points per game also place her 28th in Division II and her 9.1 rebounds per game ranks 48th. Castro's 151 made free throws are the second-most in the NE-10. She was named the ECAC Division II Player of the Week three times this season, was named Northeast-10 Player of the week four times and has been named to the NE-10 Weekly Honor Roll eight times.

Castro broke the school-record for points in a game twice this season - first with 38 points in a win over then ninth-ranked Bentley and later netted 41 points in a triple-overtime win at Bryant - and made a school-record 14 free throws in a win over Bloomfield. Also this season, she scored her 1,500th career point, became the 17th player at AIC to score 1,000 points, grabbed her 800th career rebound and hit the 500 rebound mark at AIC. For her career, Castro has 1,685 points and 849 rebounds, including 1,039 points and 569 rebounds in two seasons with the Yellow Jackets. She's made 605 field goals, including 89 3-pointers, and 386 free throws while totaling 226 assists and 78 steals. Castro also received honorable mention to the Kodak/WBCA all-America team last season.

The Yellow Jackets finished 17-12 under first-year head coach Kristen Patterson and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Northeast-10 tournament after posting a first round victory over Saint Rose.
