No. 4 Bentley Rolls Past No. 5 AIC in NE-10 Quarterfinal

Box Score

Waltham, Mass. - Fourth-seeded Bentley opened the game on a 20-4 run over the first seven minutes of the game en route to a 61-38 victory over the fifth-seeded American International College women's basketball team in the quarterfinal round of the Northeast-10 championship tournament. The Falcons improved to 19-9 on the season, while the Yellow Jackets dropped to 17-12.

AIC never got into the flow of the game. The Jackets were glaring at a 38-10 halftime deficit, falling behind by as many as 38 points, while having never held the lead at any point in the contest. A major factor for the team's lack of success was a first-half field goal percentage of 13.8 percent (4-29). The Falcons played on AIC's poor shooting by knocking down 57.1 percent (4-7) of their first-half three-point shots, opening up an immense lead.

In the losing effort, AIC saw strong point production from senior Alexis Castro (Chula Vista, Calif.) who led all scorers with 19 points to go along with five rebounds. Castro was the only Jacket with double-digit point totals. Junior Stacy Boisvert (Agawam, Mass.) was the second leading scorer on the team with eight points.

The second half saw AIC improve from the floor, upping their field goal percentage to 37 percent on 10-27 shooting.. Although the Yellow Jackets saw enhancement, the Bentley women continued shooting well, burying three-out-of-four three point attempts and 43.8 percent of their field-goals.

For the Falcons, Ashley Bruton dropped 16 points while also grabbing five rebounds. She led a balanced attack, which saw all but three players on Bentley's roster get a bucket. Erica Kirwan had 10 points for the Falcons, who advance to play the top-seeded Stonehill Skyhawks in the semifinals of the Northeast-10 championship tournament.

The Yellow Jackets hopes of continuing their 2007-2008 campaign now resides with the NCAA selection committee Sunday, March 9th.
