WOMEN'S LACROSSE EDGED AT SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (March 27, 2007) - Host Southern Connecticut State University scored twice in the final 3:16 to post an 18-16 victory over American International College in Northeast-10 women's lacrosse Tuesday at Jess Dow Field.  Southern Connecticut is now 1-3 overall and 1-0 in NE-10 play, while the Yellow Jackets are 0-4 and 0-2 in the league.

Junior Caitlin Mooney (Wilbraham, Mass.) led the AIC attack with six goals while also collecting seven ground balls.  Freshman Katie Warner (Westfield, Mass.) totaled three goals and an assist, while Jessica Scearbo (Arlington, Mass.) and Lindsey Wolfe (Westfield, Mass.) each notched two goals and two assists.  Morgan Mastronardi (Corunna, Ontario), Ashleigh Moore (East Bridgewater, Mass.) and Christina Boltz each totaled single goals for AIC.

Southern was paced by Allison Kownacki's nine goals and an assist.

AIC, which held a 10-8 lead at halftime, tied the game at 16-16 with just under four minutes left on a goal by Warner.  The Owls would take the lead for good at the 3:16 mark on a Teresa Monfredo goal then added their 18th goal with 2:46 to play on a Danielle Tammaro tally.

The guests used a 6-0 run midway through the first half to take a 8-3 lead at the 7:49 mark of the first period on Mastronardi's goal, with Scearbo assisting.  The Owls would close the half on a 5-2 run to close the gap to 10-8 at halftime.

Megan Trytsman (Kwazulu Natal, South Africa) made seven saves in goal for AIC, which was outshot 39-34 on the afternoon.

AIC returns to action Saturday when it travels to Saint Michael's.
