Women's Lacrosse Falls to No. 10 Southern New Hampshire 21-5

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The American International College women's lacrosse team dropped a 21-5 decision at 10th-ranked Southern New Hampshire Tuesday afternoon. The Penmen improved to 8-5 on the season and 7-1 in the Northeast-10, while the Yellow Jackets dropped to 0-12 overall and 0-6 in conference play. Senior Alexis Castro (Chula Vista, Calif.) scored three goals with one assist for AIC.

Freshman Kara Kirkland (Plymouth, Mass.) scored 50 seconds into the game off a pass from Castro to give the Yellow Jackets an early 1-0 lead, but Southern New Hampshire answered by scoring 16 consecutive goals over the next 36 minutes to take a 16-1 lead 6:51 into the second half. Senior Nicole Downey (Rutland, Vt.) and junior Laura Rotolo (Waltham, Mass.) scored three goals each during that span for the Penmen.

Junior Katie Warner (Westfield, Mass.) ended the run with her 10th goal of the season three minutes later and Castro netted three straight markers over a five-minute span in the final 12 minutes of the game to bring the score to 18-5. Southern New Hampshire scored each of the last three goals for the 21-5 final.

The Penmen had 14 different players register a point in the game and junior Katie Clark (Norwich, Conn.) made six saves to record the win in goal. Freshman Gina Gallo (Westfield, Mass.) made nine saves in goal for AIC.

The Yellow Jackets will next host Saint Anselm Saturday at 4 p.m. at John Homer Miller Field.
