Women's Lacrosse Drops 21-15 Contest at Franklin Pierce
Rindge, N.H. - The American International College women's lacrosse
team dropped a 21-15 decision at Franklin Pierce Thursday night.
The Ravens improved to 3-12 on the season and 1-8 in the
Northeast-10, while the Yellow Jackets dropped to 0-15 overall and
0-9 in conference play. Junior Katie Warner (Westfield,
Mass.) scored four goals with three assists for a
team-high seven points for AIC.
The Yellow Jackets offense exploded out of the gate as AIC took a 6-1 lead with 11:41 remaining in the opening half. Senior Alexis Castro (Chula Vista, Calif.) scored each of the first three goals of the game in the first 11:08 of the game and the Yellow Jackets led 5-0 one minute later after junior Jessica Scearbo (Arlington, Mass.) and senior Caitlin Mooney (Wilbraham, Mass.) scored 35 seconds apart.
Freshman Jordan Baillargeon (Westfield, Mass.) got Franklin Pierce on the board midway through the first half and Mooney answered with her second goal of the game at the 11:41 mark of the first half. The Ravens then scored seven consecutive goals to take the lead for good at 8-6 and netted 12 of the next 13 goals to take a 15-9 lead 6:39 into the second half.
AIC scored four of the next six goals, including three from Warner, to pull within four, 17-13, midway through the second half. The two teams then traded goals before freshman Lauren Stille (North Quincy, Mass.) and Baillargeon gave the Ravens a 20-14 lead with 1:24 remaining in the contest.
Baillargeon recorded game-highs of seven goals and nine points for Franklin Pierce and Stille contributed five goals and six points. Castro scored a team-high five goals for AIC and Scearbo added three markers, while sophomore Danielle Hodecker (West Springfield, Mass.) handed out three assists.
Senior Michaela Sullivan (Arlington, Mass.) made 15 saves to record the win in goal, while freshman Gina Gallo (Westfield, Mass.) registered 23 saves in goal for the Yellow Jackets.
AIC closes out the 2008 season Friday at Bentley with a 7 p.m.
