Women's Lacrosse Drops Season-Opener at Emerson

Box Score

Boston, Mass. - The American International College women's lacrosse team dropped a 17-9 decision at Emerson College (1-1) Friday evening to open the 2008 season. Freshman Kara Kirkland (Plymouth, Mass.) tallied four goals in her collegiate debut for the Yellow Jackets.

Senior Jessie Kalikow (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) led the Lions with seven points, scoring four goals and handing out three assists, and freshman Laure Miley (Cranston, R.I.) scored a game-high six goals.

Sophomore Danielle Hodecker (West Springfield, Mass.) opened the scoring to give AIC an early 1-0 lead and led 2-1 the first goal of Kirkland's college career. Hodecker assisted on the play.

Emerson knotted the score at 2-2 when freshman Monica Carroll (Reading, Mass.) scored the first of her two goals in the game and then took the lead for good, 4-2, on goals by senior Kristi Walles (Sr. Merrimack, N.H.) and Miley

Kirkland pulled the Yellow Jackets back within one with her second marker of the game before the Lions went on a 5-0 run, including three tallies by Miley, to take a 9-3 lead. Junior Jessica Scearbo (Arlington, Mass.) broke that streak with 1:07 remaining in the period with her first goal of the season, but Miley answered with 27 seconds left in the half as Emerson took a 10-4 lead at the half. The Lions then opened the second half with three consecutive goals to put the game out of reach.

Freshman Meredith Tufts (Milton, Mass.) turned away 12 shots to record the win in goal, while fellow freshman Gina Gallo (Westfield, Mass.) made 10 saves in goal for AIC.

The Yellow Jackets will next open the home portion of their schedule when they host Molloy Sunday at 11 a.m. The game will be played at Elms College's Leary Field in Chicopee, Mass.
