Haddad Places Sixth at Brute/Bearcat Open
Binghamton, N.Y. - Junior Jeff Haddad (Old Saybrook, Conn.) of the American International College wrestling team placed sixth in the 133-pound bracket at the Brute/Bearcat Open Saturday at Binghamton University. He was one of four Yellow Jackets to record multiple wins at the open tournament.
Haddad won four bouts to advance to the semifinals after being pinned in the first round by Seth Ciasulli of Lehigh (1:00). He defeated Kutztown's Cory Woldorf (17-2, 4:48), American's Nick Klistein (14-2), Pennsylvania's Phillip Boyer (3-2) and Drexel's Billy Martin (7-3). He placed sixth after forfeiting the fifth-place match.
Graduate student Daniel Dalle-Molle (Kotzbue, Alaska) fell to Virginia's Calvin Cardillo, 6-3, in the opening round of the heavyweight bracket, but rebounded to defeat Kutztown's A.J. Cary, 10-5, Bloomsburg's Nate Knapp, 5-3, and Bucknell's William McCormick, 6-3 to advance to the quarterfinals. He was then pinned by Bucknell's George Hingson.
Sophomore Sam Gauvive (Enfield, Conn.) went 2-2 on the day at 141-pounds, posting wins over Bloomsburg's Willy Mack (8-4) and Bucknell's Zach Galligan (6-3) after falling to Virginia's Zack Anderson (7-3) and later to Hofstra's Justin Accordino (5-2).
Sophomore Nick Laurino (Merrick, N.Y.) fell in his opening bout at 174 pounds to Pittsburgh's Phil Sorrentino, 8-6, before posting victories over Cortland's Corey Barber and Drexel's Pete Simon. He was eliminated by Scott Griffin of Penn, 14-4.
