NINTH-RANKED ASSUMPTION EDGES WOMEN’S SOCCER 1-0
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 18, 2005)
– Andrea Marcoccio (Warwick, R.I.) scored in
the 64th minute to lift ninth-ranked Assumption College
to a 1-0 win over American International College in a Northeast-10
women’s soccer match Sunday afternoon at AIC Park. The
Greyhounds remained unbeaten at 6-0-0 (4-0-0 NE-10) while the
Yellow Jackets are 1-6-0 and 0-5-0 in the league.
After a scoreless first half, Assumption got on the board when a long ball was served into the box. The ball was kicked around for a few seconds before Caitlin McMullan (East Hartford, Conn.) slid it to Marcoccio standing in front of the net. Marcoccio one-timed it past AIC goalkeeper Danielle Hodecker (West Springfield, Mass.)
Hodecker made seven saves for American International, while Assumption goalie Lauren Matysiak (Holden, Mass.) stopped one Yellow Jacket shot en route to the shutout. The Greyhounds outshot AIC 22-7 on the afternoon.
AIC is idle until Saturday when it travels to
Bentley for a 3:00 match.
