WOLFE, ITALIANO LEAD WOMEN’S SOCCER TO OPENING DAY WIN OVER MOLLOY
LUDLOW, Mass. (September 3, 2005) –
Lindsey Wolfe (Westfield, Mass.) and
Stacey Italiano (Lake Grove, N.Y.) each netted a
goal and an assist as the American International College
women’s soccer team opened the 2005 season with a 4-2 win
over Molloy College Saturday afternoon at Lusitano Stadium.
Molloy evened its record at 1-1 on the season.
The Yellow Jackets took a 3-0 lead midway through the first half when they scored three times in a 3:13 span. Italiano opened the scoring at the 18-minute mark on an unassisted tally. Wolfe would make it 2-0 at 20:25, and 48 seconds later, Caitlin Mooney (Wilbraham, Mass.) scored what would be the eventual game-winner with an assist from Italiano. The Lions got on the board with 6:54 left in the first half when Gillian Fortune (Westbury, N.Y.) scored to make it 3-1 heading into halftime.
Fortune would strike again 3:17 into the second
half to make it a 3-2 contest, but AIC would
add an insurance goal at the 63:24 mark when Joanne
Germano (West Springfield, Mass.) scored with Wolfe
tallying an assist.
Sara Hyde (Winter Haven, Fla.) made 10 saves for the Yellow Jackets, while Mallory Dickman (St. James, N.Y.) turned aside four AIC attempts. American International outshot Molloy 22-14.
AIC returns to action Wednesday when it hosts Le
Moyne College for a 3:30 tilt.
