Women's Soccer Falls on Senior Day
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 17,
2006) - Saint Anselm senior
Jocelyn Savastano (Plymouth, Mass.) scored two
goals and registered an assist as Saint Anselm defeated American
International College 4-0 in Northeast-10 action Tuesday afternoon
at AIC Park. The loss drops the Yellow Jackets to 1-14-1 overall
and 0-13-0 in the Northeast-10. The win improves the Hawks to 9-5-3
overall and 6-4-3 in Northeast-10 play.
St Anselm's came out with a strong offensive attack, out shooting the Yellow Jackets 21-2 in the first-half. They took advantage of the barrage of shots when senior Nichole Dunn (Plymouth, Mass.) took a feed from Savastano and fired a shot passed AIC goalie Sara Mead (Great Barrington, Mass.) who totaled 13 saves in the first-frame.
The second-half saw much of the same. Saint Anselm again out shot the Yellow Jackets, this time 15-6, scoring three times and blowing the game open. Savastano scored both of her goals in the second-half and freshman Christine Cochrane (Concord, N.H.) scored once.
Despite the loss, AIC saw strong play from Mead who 18 had saves, and was constantly under pressure all afternoon. Junior Joanne Germano (West Springfield, Mass.) knocked on the door-step of the Saint Anselm goal several times, but ended up striking the cross bar and being the victim of two great saves from Hawks goalkeeper Michaela Smith (Andover, Mass.).
The Yellow Jackets will have their season finale October
21st when they visit Saint Rose.
