Women's Soccer Falls 2-1 to Bentley

Springfield, Mass. (September 23, 2006) - Freshman Morgan Mastronardi (Corunna, Ontario) scored a goal and AIC battled down to the wire, but was unable to get an equalizer that would have tied the score late in the game, and fell 2-1 to Bentley College Saturday afternoon in a closely-played Northeast-10 match-up at AIC Park. The win improves the Falcons to 5-5 overall and 2-5 in Northeast-10 play. The loss drops the Yellow Jackets to 1-8 overall and 0-7 in Northeast-10 action.

The first half of action was played equally on both sides of the field until the 11:54 mark, when Falcons senior Sam Hughes (Andover, Mass.) fired a shot from 25-feet out that was tipped by Yellow Jackets goaltender Danielle Hodecker (West Springfield, Mass) and placed into the back of the net by Bentley junior Cat Farnham (North Andover, Mass.). Hodecker would have nine saves on the day.

With the score 1-0, Bentley would add an insurance goal 12:23 into the second-half when junior Bridget O'Malley (Milton, Mass) placed a beautiful pass in front of the goal where freshman Cheryl Boyd (Holliston, Mass.) received  it off the top of her head, and placed it into the net for the Falcons second goal.

Despite being down by two goals, AIC continued to battle, and it would pay off with 26:07 showing on the clock, when junior Joanne Germano (West Springfield, Mass.) placed a ball though the Falcons defense and onto the toe of Mastronardi who drilled it into the back of the net. AIC would knock on the doorstep of the Bentley goal several more times before the game came to an end, but couldn't tie the score, and fell 2-1.

The Yellow Jackets will host St. Michael's on Tuesday, September 26 at 3:30pm.
