WOMEN'S SOCCER DROPS 2-1 DECISION TO WILMINGTON COLLEGE

Box Score

NEW CASTLE, DE - The Wildcats of Wilmington College used a strong second half for a come-from-behind win over the visiting Yellow jackets of American International College.  The game, which pitted the two New England region women's soccer teams, took place on the sweltering turf of the Kirkwood Soccer Complex on Saturday afternoon.

The two teams battled for much of the first half, with neither having much success until American International's Lindsay Wolfe (Westfield, Mass.) took a Courtney Roberts (Far Rockaway, N.J.) feed and punched over Wilmington's Amanda Jenkins to put the Yellow Jackets on the board with just under three minutes remaining in the half.

Wilmington opened the second half with better pressure on the ball, and the hard work paid off during the 65th minute, when freshman forward Kirsten Stallone received a beautiful pass in the box from junior Chrissy Bevenour.  Stallone found herself alone versus Kara Potts (Westfield, Mass.), the Yellowjackets' keeper, and Stallone cashed in on her first collegiate goal when she dribbled a roller past the diving Potts into the back the of net.  Senior forward Begum Malali netted her first goal of the year at the 71 minute mark as she fired off a shot on the low far post that squeaked by the American International keeper.

The Wildcat defense and midfield kept the Yellow Jackets at bay for the remainder of the game, doing an excellent of job of keeping the ball on the offensive side of the pitch.  Wilmington received an outstanding game from sophomore keeper Amanda Jenkins.  Jenkins recorded eight saves in goal, including a few from point blank range early in the first half.  Kara Potts took the loss for American International, notching eight saves between the pipes.

The loss drops the Yellow Jackets to 1-1-0 overall after having defeated Golden Beacom College 6-0, Friday afternoon.
