Women's Soccer Downs Post 3-1

Boxscore

Springfield, Mass - Tyler Rockefeller (Greenlawn, N.Y.), Morgan Mastronardi (Corunna, Ont.) and Cassie Ashwell (Feeding Hills, Mass.) all scored as the Yellow Jackets downed the visiting Eagles of Post University 3-1 Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference match-up at AIC Park. The win moves the Yellow Jackets to 7-9-0 overall while the loss drops the Eagles to 2-10-1 overall.

The Eagles got on the board first at the 3:34 mark in the first-stanza when Maria Krug (Norwich, Conn.) took a redirected shot that was initially saved by AIC goalie Danielle Hodecker (West Springfield, Mass.) and placed it to the back of the net for the score.

Hodecker turned away two shots in net while Post goalie Stephanie Goss (Manchester, Conn.) stopped 12 shots in net for the Eagles.

AIC evened the game at one at the 15:09 point in the first-half when Rockefeller took a perfect cross from Ashwell and struck is past Goss right in front of the net.

AIC out-shot Post 27-7 and earned a 5-3 margin in corner kicks.

The Yellow Jackets eventually took a lead they wouldn't relinquish less than two minutes before the first-frame came to a close when Mastronardi took a pass from Joanne Germano (West Springfield, Mass) out in front of the box and punched it home.

With the score 2-1, AIC put the finishing touches on the contest at the 64:37 mark when Ashwell received a pass from Lindsay Wolfe (Westfield, Mass.) and fired home a long-distance goal.

AIC will host Franklin Pierce this Saturday at 11:00 p.m.
